Erratic timing with RC 505 MK2

Post by 955 »

i’m just getting underway using the NOME2.

I’m using it as a master clock for my RC 505 mark two. The RC is set to receive clock via midi

I can get the RC to sync up with the NOME and it puts the “one” in the right place. However, the project I use this for changes tempo often in an improvisational way. I go from 160 BPM to 80 BPM as fast as I can turn the tempo knob on the NOME …after a few minutes of this I begin to lose the one and then tempo altogether.

I’m doing livelooping on the RC 505 mark two.

Does anyone have the experience with the RC that could possibly let me know why this is happening and what the fix is?

This is my first post. I’m looking forward to getting some responses and thank you all very much.

Hi :)

Thanks for writing, and for getting a Nome :D

The Nome is very good at giving the best possible clock, also when you do crazy tempo changes, the clock pulses will always be regular and smoothly changing (no jumps, no back and forth in tempo, etc.), and no clock pulse is ever missed.
But that's all the Nome can do - send the best clock. How to devices receiving that clock handle it is up to them. Some devices might struggle with wild tempo changes, and I guess teh RC505 is one of those.

The community on FB has made a "compatibility spreadsheet" - https://www.facebook.com/groups/simnton ... 4555808930
which shows which devices react best to MIDI Clock and other clock-related matters.

The RC505 (I assume mark one) is there, and marked as "it seems to sync poorly to MIDI Clock (wants to be the master)".

Maybe someone else here or on the FB Group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/simntonic ) can give you more information :)
