Hello, I am new to the Nome 2 and to U-Sync and still have questions.
I have connected the Nome 2 to Ableton 12 like it is shown in the videos on YouTube. Everything fine and working.
However I still have not really understood what exactly U-Sync is doing.
So my question is: Do i get the accurate clock from Nome 2 / U-Sync only on the MIDI-Outs from the Nome 2?
How about Hardware Synths that I have connected to Ableton via USB-MIDI? Or how about another DIN-MIDI-Interface that is connected to the Mac and Ableton via USB?
My understanding is that in the typical usecase of Nome 2 / U-Sync (as I have installed it) Ableton is not the master clock anymore but slaved to Nome 2 / U-Sync. So everything else connected to Ableton (Synths with USB-MIDI, other MIDI Interfaces via USB) should follow as well and be stabile? Or am I wrong here?
Thanks for a short answer and kind regards, Patrick

Hi
So all your machines need to receive the clock from the Nome somehow. You can use MIDI Thru boxes, mergers, etc (or even multiple Nomes!) if you have many machines. Note that the Nome can also forward MIDI data from your DAW to send it on the Nome's MIDI outputs and unlike a "typical" merge box, it will merge it smartly with the clock, without affecting at all the clock timing.
For USB synths only - these might be pretty doomed in terms of timing anyways as the overall problem is USB itself - so for these you might as well send the "normal" MIDI Clock from your DAW, doing your best using the DAW's clock timing adjustment to get it as close to the grid as possible

Correct -if it's not connected to the Nome then it cannot get the clock from the Nome. All U-SYNC does is sending a precise clock (and from U-SYNC 2.0, notes as well) to the Nome, which it can then send further to your machines.

Thank you for the quick, detailed and yet easy to understand answer, Simon.
Okay, got it, so only stabile MIDI Clock from the two MIDI Outs of the Nome 2.
I do have a cpl of synths, grooveboxes and other gear but I guess you should just take in consideration which ones really do need the rocksolid clock.
My answer: This would be those devices that do have an internal sequencer or arpeggiator or similar (e.g. grooveboxes, drum machines, analog(ish) synths) I would like to use and sync with Ableton.
The devices (e.g. romplers, old fx-units) that just do get triggered by MIDI notes from Ableton piano roll and that's it do not need the super accurate U-Sync clock, I guess.
So those should be quite easy decisions to make that do not change very often.
Oh btw, I am just loud thinking here, maybe this is going to help other noobs like myself.
Thanks again.

Yes exactly. More precisely, those other devices will not even use the clock but directly the MIDI Notes. The clock is only used if there is something "time-based" on the device, like a sequencer, an arp, etc. Note that you can still use the Nome to send the MIDI Notes - but it will not change anything timing-wise (until U-SYNC 2.0 that will also be able to send MIDI Notes precisely on the grid). So for now, whatever is easiest with your setup.chain25 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2025, 10:07 My answer: This would be those devices that do have an internal sequencer or arpeggiator or similar (e.g. grooveboxes, drum machines, analog(ish) synths) I would like to use and sync with Ableton.

It definitely will - thank you!

Cool, thanks, already looking forward to U-Sync 2.0, then.
