Nome II, Ableton & Octatrack Setup.

Post by lfophant »

Hello,

Stoked that I have just received my NomeII. Could do with some help figuring this issue out though.

NomeII running latest FW update.
USB C connected to DAW (Ableton running latest vers. )
USync app / vst. running - shows as "connected"
OT set to EXT clock (and adjusts tempo with tempo change from NomeII)

Ive altered the Shift (-2.5ms) to make sure my recording is perfectly on the grid.

However when I record, it doesn't stay locked on the grid in a regimented fashion. So by 16 bars is visibly out and off grid. I've attached some photos to demonstrate

What am I doing wrong please? I have restarted everything and I think Ive set it all up correctly but Ive only just received this / read manual etc so by no means an expert.

Thanks, Andy.

Hi Andy

Thank you for asking here :)

Andy and I had a few emails exchange, so I'll copy/paste my latest email:

You don’t need the “sync” boxes checked anywhere in the Ableton MIDI settings and you should definitely not enable the “EXT”. U-SYNC takes care of the sync, all you need is to load the plugin somewhere.

Then, on the Nome in the settings make sure you have the setting “A.PL” (Autoplay) set to anything but “OFF”.
At this point pressing play in Ableton will start the Nome automatically, on time with the grid.

For bi-directional sync you can load the “Nome” Control Surface in Ableton as explained in the U-SYNC manual.

Then try recording the Nome's metronome again - it should be pretty easy to get it right, there might be a little latency which you can compensate for using the shift slider.
If moving the shift slider has no effect you probably need to check your Ableton settings - see the troubleshooting section in the U-SYNC manual.

Overall it’s a very simple process but one still needs to understand how it works, and I’m sorry at the moment the only documentation there is are the PDF manuals on https://simntonic.com/support
I plan on making how-to videos but I have not got to it yet.

Andy, what's the latest status on this?
