Problem with Nome in Bitwig

Post by Momonippon »

Hi,

i'm using the nome 2 with bitwig (and a Hapax Sequencer).

Under 6.2 in the U-Sync manual it says "From your session, you can see the controllers at the very top right of the Bitwig window". Unfortunately it doesn't show up though.

Does it mean it's actually not in effect? I did select it in the controller section though. The sync LED is on also, and i can change Tempo in nome and Hapax from the DAW. But maybe that's independent of it?

Sorry, i haven't fully grasped the device (and U-Sync) yet, just haven't noticed any difference when recording audio/midi since i set it up.

Thanks in advance for an answer!

Hi :)

Thank you for asking here!
Sounds to me like everything is working though? You can change tempo from the Nome or Bitwig, correct? Then bi-directional is working. The "SYNC" led being permanently on also confirms that.

And yes the controllers at the very top right are there - I can even see them in your screenshot :D

What you see in my screenshot are other controllers. The nome didn't show up. After having re-installed it though, now it does :)

Yes, bi-directional tempo control works. All my machines seem to communicate. I'm still not able to record on the grid though. I guess that could be helped by messing around more with recording offset in bitwig and the midi note compensation in the Hapax?! I'll keep on trying.

Ah I see :)
Well probably a minor bug in Bitwig, that happens.

Regarding recording on the grid, are you recording audio? Are you sending MIDI Notes from Bitwig, or sequencing from an external sequencer (sync'ed to the Nome over MIDI Clock)?

Maybe the recording offset in Bitwig can help, but usually you would use the "shift" slider in the U-SYNC plugin to compensate for any latency.

thank you for your answer, simon.

my setup is the following:

i'm sending midi from the hapax via USB into bitwig. i use a lot of older synths and there's bunch of midi thru boxes and mergers involved. everything goes thru an arturia audiofuse interface into bitwig.

after having tried sending midi clock from the nome into the hapax, i eventually went back to using the sequencers internal clock to record midi into bitwig.

i usually do a good part of the final composing of the midi notes in bitwig, before i bounce the tracks to audio.

oh and i do use u-sync!
i haven't quite figured out though how it works exactly and if it actually has any effect on the audio when bouncing it? the audio lands well on the grid, which is why i bought the nome to begin with, but i'm not sure if it has to do with u-sync or me spending numerous hours trying to deal with bitwigs recording offset and lateny compensation.

so the question is, if the nome is actually improving anything in my setup at all, since i now don't even use it's midi outs, but only USB to mac.

sorry, i have an old brain ;)
