Getting the Nome II to start where I put the cursor in Ableton

Post by Jimmyjames »

Hi Simon

Just received the unit and set it up to be master clock for all my devices including pedals, synths and the windows Ableton 10 DAW and certainly does that :P

I want to hand the device to our drummer to set the tempo and control the DAW tempo but I cant get it to start (and record) where i put the cursor in Ableton, it keeps going to the 1 position. I dont care who starts the recording in the DAW using Ableton or the Nome II. But I cant have it starting at the 1 position each time because we may stop and start the recordings many time during the day and i dont want it to over write the just recorded session.

How can I have the Nome be master clock and if I press record in ableton (or play on the nome) it starts where I put the cursor and the Nome manages the tempo?

thoughts?

cheers
Simon

Hi Jimmy

Unfortunately if you are starting Ableton from the Nome it will always start from the beginning. What you can do is deactivate the MIDI sync in Ableton (turn off the "EXT"), and sync the Nome to Ableton instead, using an audio sync track.

The audio sync track can be generated automatically by this Plugin: https://github.com/simntonic/Midronome- ... tag/v1.1.0
You will need to send the audio from the plugin to a *dedicated* audio output on your interface, then connect a cable from this output to the "INPUT" on your Nome. Finally set the "inP" setting to "24P" on your Nome.

See more detailed instructions in the PDF "How-To-Sync-with-DAWs.pdf" from the link above, and the video linked in the PDF :)

Let us know if you are struggling to set it up!
