Morningstar MC6 Pro - Tap Tempo to Midronome?

Post by jordyk422 »

Hey there,

I use the original Midronome for MIDI clock,
and the Morningstar MC6 Pro for all other MIDI control;
and I use a MIDI router device (Conductive Labs MRCC 880) to send the signals separately or merged to specific devices.

Currently the Midronome and MC6 Pro are not connected to each other; both operating completely separately as detailed above.

QUESTION: Is there a way to program a footswitch on the MC6 Pro to act as tap tempo for the Midronome? (without engaging the clock on the MC6 Pro…)

Thank you!!

By the way, in case Simon sees this:

Absolutely loving the Midronome! It’s the one thing I use for every setup. (One time, u-synced to Logic Pro I was even able to record loops from a Boss multitrack looper into the DAW and record additional guitar tracks in Logic with external time-based effects, and everything remained perfectly synced!)

In 2022, I thought I had an invention for a MIDI clock device with a metronome output, and when I googled to see if anything existed I found the Midronome kickstarter and instantly contributed to the parallel innovation. Turned out to be better than anything I could have dreamt! :)

I figured it out!

In case this helps anyone else:

Set up the Midronome input to receive Tap Pedal.

With a TRS cable, connect 1/4” input of Midronome to one of the 1/8” Relay Ports on MC6 Pro, then program one of the MC6 Pro footswitch presets with a message similar to this:
Action “Press”
Type “Relay Switching”
Send To “Relay Port A/B” (whichever is connected to Midronome input)
Select Tip Action: “Tap - NO” (Normally Open)
  • “Tap - NC” (Normally Closed) would work as well, with the beats registering on the footswitch release instead of the press
Works better with greater switch sensitivity settings. I increased switch sensitivity to the max setting (5). In my opinion, the higher sensitivity is much better across the board with the MC6 Pro, but you do sacrifice effectiveness of dual switch pressing actions (which I don’t use anyway).

Edit: Corrected a point, per Simon’s input

Awesome - thank you for posting your solution here!
The Nome detects pedal polarity so both normally open and normally closed should work. And Tip means pedal 1 (PEd setting) while Ring means pedal 2 (PE.2). Just FYI, pedal 2 cannot do tap tempo, only mute or play (or switch presets from FW 4.0).

Amazing to know the Morningstar can do "Relay", i.e. act like an actual physical pedal - that's pretty cool :D It's actually one of the add-on modules I'd like to make eventually, for pedal to sync their guitar pedals that have a "tap" input (which usually expects an actual physical pedal).

My pleasure, very happy to hear you love the little box! :)
