5 Pin Midi to avoid needing a merger

Hi, new to the forum. Sorry if this is a duplicate request... I read that this feature was in the works but thought I'd ask here.

Would love to be able to input a midi controller keyboard and have the note info merge with the clock being sent out... I have a MidiSolutions MidiMerger but I'm using it elsewhere and they're not cheap. Any idea when this feature may be inplemented?

Thanks much and great work on the box!

Hi :)

That is a great point and you would indeed be better off to let the Nome do the merging, as it can do so without affecting the clock.
Adding a MIDI input to the Nome is still on the pipeline, it will come as an add-on module that you clip on the side of your Nome.

There is still no ETA for such modules unfortunately, so in the meantime I suggest you find another solution.
Can you maybe connect your MIDI keyboard to your computer? If so you can use software to route the MIDI to the Nome's USB port, who will then do the merging.

Thanks for the quick response!

Yes, I can surely go through the computer to do all of this easily... I'm just trying to have a DAWless setup at my satellite studio at home, I have a large studio setup in a separate space. I'll either get the merger from my other studio, or just reluctantly use a computer at my home setup, not the worst option hehe

I will look forward to the option you have in the works for merging incoming note date with the clock being sent out of the Nome2. Please keep us posted!

I definitely will :)

Regarding the setup with a computer, all you need is a simple "MIDI Forwarding software" that can send the MIDI received from your keyboard to the Nome's interfaces called "MIDI Out 1" and "MIDI Out 2". Then the Nome will do the merging on the given MIDI-DIN output.

Pocket MIDI can definitely do that, and it's available for both Mac and Windows.

Ah, cool idea I'll try this. Sort of halfway solution as a still need a laptop but technically no DAW... I have Ableton on the laptop so that's not the issue, just trying to get the laptop out of the setup, but I could use the laptop in clamshell mode and pretend it isn't there :)

I appreciate the thought put into this and your responses, thanks much!

ha I can't use clamshell mode without an external monitor! I'll just close it most of the way and put it off to the side and see how it works. Also going to try the merger post-nome and see how the timing is

Alrighty - keep us posted as well :)

One last idea, for a computer-less setup, would be to use a MIDI to USB host adapter like the Kenton MIDI USB Host or the Behringer Go MIDI Host (very cheap). These will take MIDI from a DIN-MIDI input and send it to the Nome over USB.
The problem is that I am not sure if these will be able to send to a specific USB-MIDI interface, I would guess they can only send to the first interface, which in the Nome's case is not the MIDI Out 1/2 interface.
