Best Setup for Syncing Ableton & Drum Machines + Hardware

Hello,

I got my nome II in the mail and trying to figure out what setup is the best for not having to mess with syncing anything once it's set. I am on a windows computer so I first tried to sync the Midronome to Ableton using the plugin with 25ppq. I see from the tap tempo button that the sync is matching ableton but whenever I press play on the nome my drummachine is still not properly syncd with ableton and there is a delay from when it starts playing. I added a picture below Image

I was also hoping that when you are using 24ppq mode that it would start and stop when you start and stop ableton but this isn't the case when I use it this way.

What I want to know is what is the best way to set up the nome so that I load up ableton, press play on either ableton or the nome and not have to mess with syncing up latencies every single time and all of my machines start and stop when I press stop or start on my ableton or the nome as that was the whole point of me getting this device.

I tried using the nome as the external clock but it seemed again I had to mess with latencies to get everything tight.

Am I missing something? Please let me know how you have configured similar setups and what is the best way to achieve what I described above.

Thanks! :D

Hi :)

Thanks for asking here! From what you describe, it looks like you are syncing Ableton to the Nome over USB-MIDI and not using the 24ppq mode and the plugin? Or maybe I misunderstood :)
In any case, see the "How to sync with DAWs" PDF here: https://github.com/simntonic/Midronome- ... tag/v1.1.0
Section 1.2 explains the difference between syncing using the plugin or using MIDI Clock over USB.

Please download the VST plugin and set it up using the rest of the PDF and the How to setup for Ableton video (linked in the PDF as well) for how to set up and adjust the sync. This stuff is from FW 2.0 and the Nome I (Midronome) but the setup has not changed so it should work exactly the same way with your device and FW 4.6.

Once set up and adjusted, you should be able to record exactly on the grid (within ~1ms) every time :)

Yes - you need to enable "AutoPlay" by changing the "A.PL" setting (press the settings button, find A.PL and change it to the port you want to start). See the Nome Manual for more info.

Remember to update your device's firmware to 4.6, and take your time skimming through the manual and checking a few videos on the Youtube channel - you might be surprised by unexpected features the device has which could be useful to you ;)

Let us know how it goes!

Cheers
