I'm Aaron, I have bought the latest product Nome 2. I bought it cause I thought it could solve the issue of midi jitter of my three drum machines: Elektron Model Samples, Korg Electribe EMX, Korg Electribe Er1. My project is to connect the drum machine to live (11), make some stuff on the pc (windows), some sounds in the drum machines and make all of them go in sync together. I was really happy when Nome has arrived and I was really thinking that it would resolve the problem of syncing my Daw as a master to the drum machine slaves. I got to know that the Daw has a lot of problem in syncing with outer stuff on following is really bad, but in being the master is better. After setting up the Nome 2 I immediately saw some problems in the Electribe EMX. When I was playing some drum sounds it was perfect, but when I played synths with longer decay it has started giving issues and slowdowns: a sort of jitter. Is not the same sound as recorded without syncing. To me it seems that the Electribe doesn't manage to follow the midi messages, it doesn't manage to follow as a slave... I don't know...
If you can help to let me know more thank you.
Anyway I was thinking to return the Nome 2 if in my setup is useless, I'll sync manually and that's it.

Thanks for writing here Aaron

Just moving this topic to the "Questions" forum where it belongs.

As I mentioned in my email, please try the following:

• Try syncing without the DAW, just Nome -> MIDI-DIN cable -> Electribe machines, see if you get the same issues
  • Try changing the tempo on the go, see if this affects the timing or create issues
    ​
  • Use the Nome's metronome (the "AUDIO" output) to compare the timing of the Nome and the machines
  ​
• When this is fully working, then add the DAW by syncing your nome to the DAW using the "Midronome" plugin since you are on Windows

I also hope there is someone here using Electribe with the Nome / Midronome, who can answer you?

Hi, I tried again with only the Nome ll, and there's the same problem, the sound slightly change it seem like also the delay have a different impact. It works only in one case, when I unplug the midi cable in the Electribe I let it make a run by itself then stop, afteri reconnect the midi and only the first time when I play on the Nome it works with the same sounds. After, when I stop or change the tempo it start collapsing again.
I don't know what to do..

Hi, Draw a picture with complete cabling. Describe all MIDI settings of your devices / setup in detail and ask at the Elektronauts forum. There you will find lot's of experienced people with complex MIDI setups. https://www.elektronauts.com/latest

I might be wrong, but from what I understood the last test only had Nome II -> Electribe, is that correct Aaron?

If this does not work properly, then my guess is the Electribe is just very bad at following MIDI Clock generally. Meaning the Electribe is not good at following any clock. Have you tried maybe asking on the Korg forums/community if other people have had similar issues, syncing their EMX to something else?

This guy seems to have the Electribe as a slave without issues, but I am not sure if that is the same Electribe as you though...

And looking at the EMX-1 manual, they do say it will sync nicely to any master clock... But obviously the manual is not be the place where they would say "oh yea we made that feature but it does not really work"...
In my experience machines which are bad at following Clock are also terrible clock masters, so if that really is the case then it's just the way it was designed, and clearly the Electribe was not meant to be used with other machines. Just my 2 cents - I might be wrong!

If you need to return the Nome II do not hesitate to reach out over email and I can help you proceed, or just follow the steps in the refund policy. But feel free to skim through the manual first, the Nome is a very versatile toolbox and there might be some useful features which you missed when you first got the device
