Sustain Pedal issue

Midronome 1 "resetting" sustain pedal over and over?:

SetupMidronome connected to Novation SL MK3, which is midi out to my Novation Peak and MPC X SE

Steps to Reproduce: I have tried two different SL MK3's, multiple sustain pedals and multiple midi cables. Same Result.

Expected Behavior: Normal Sustain function when playing the midi controller.

Actual Behavior: Sustain starts then appears to be "switched" off by the Midronome. I can see the function go from 127 (full activation) to 0 (deactivated). I should note this only happens when the "play" button on the Midronome is switched on. It doesn't happen if I use the MPC or the SL MK3 play button.

Nome generation (I or II) and Firmware version: Gen 1, not actually sure which firmware?

Thank you for reporting :)

I have to say though I am a bit confused about what the problem is.
Are you speaking about MIDI CC 66 (Sostenuto pedal)?

You said your setup was:

Code: Select all

Midronome -> MIDI cable -> Novation SL MK3 -> Novation Peak
Nothing else? If so, where is the sustain pedal connected, on the SL MK3?

All the Midronome sends is MIDI Clock, as well as MIDI Start and SPP 0,0 (only when you press the Play button). Once the play button is pressed, it won't send anything else but MIDI Clock, and actually it sends the exact same if the button was not pressed (since MIDI Clock is always sent).

So maybe receiving the MIDI Start + SPP 0,0 affects it somehow, but it's very unlikely. My guess is there something else affecting your setup.
If you want to make sure the Midronome does not send some random MIDI CC messages that would affect the SL MK3, you can change your setup to this:

Code: Select all

Midronome -> MIDI cable -> computer with forwarding software -> MIDI Cable -> Novation SL MK3 -> Novation Peak
If you're on Mac you can use PocketMIDI to forward the MIDI messages. Then you'd be able to see what messages are actually sent.

Or if you have one, you could use a MIDI Thru box with a filter (like this one: https://www.thomann.co.uk/miditech_midi_thru_filter.htm ) to filter any other messages but MIDI Clock (= real time messages).

But again all of this is very unlikely, I am sure your Midronome only sends MIDI Clock and nothing else, like it should.

PS: If you are on an old Midronome FW, try unplugging the USB cable, and hold PLAY+MUTE+TAP TEMPO down while you plug it back. This will boot the device in bootloader mode (btl) and tell you which version you have ("Cur x.x" for "current version").
If you have upgraded to the new bootloader, then you are on FW 3.1 or 3.2.
