Hey,

I'm seeing some odd behavior with my new NOME II when using Ableton and U-SYNC to record hardware synths, any advice appreciated!

Everything works perfectly when using Ableton 11, i.e. incoming audio is recorded bang on the grid using a -6 ms SHIFT delay - but for some reason Ableton 12 always has latency. Using SHIFT helps reduce it a bit, but it never gets close to being on the grid. More details below. Any pointers appreciated!

Set up:

Apple M1 Max
Nome II connected via USB
Nome II Midi Out 1 -> Cirklon, Cirklon controls synths via MIDI, e.g Analog Rytm.
Audio Interface: QU32 Mixer.
Ableton config per manual (Delay Comp., Reduced Latency whilst monitoring). Sample rate 48000, buffer size 32 samples. Same across both Ableton 11 and Ableton 12.

Ableton Live 11 Suite v 11.3.26, build 2024-08-27
Ableton Live 12 Suite v12.1.5 Build 2024-12-11

Using Ableton 12, recording in just a kick drum with the U-SYNC default settings shows a gap of 0:00:024 between the grid and the kick.

Using SHIFT to try and reduce that helps a bit, but even setting SHIFT to -100ms only reduces this gap to 0:00:013 - so something seems very wrong?

Using the exact same hardware / Ableton config in Live 11, and U-SYNC defaults shows a gap of only 0:00:05, and setting SHIFT to -6ms results in the kick being bang on the grid, i.e. so small a gap that it shows as 0:00:00

Any ideas welcome!

Ableton 12, SHIFTED by 100ms(!) is still 0:00:013 off grid

Replying to my own question.

I changed the Driver Error Compensation setting in Live 12's preferences to 20ms. Then the U-SYNC SHIFT value worked as expected and I was able to adjust by 4.8 ms to get the kick on the grid. I've not ever had to do this before, so not sure why (using this interface for several years with other version of Live, other software etc in various scenarios).
