Hi there, it could be below mentioned topics meant the same thing, pardon if I missed something, but I didn't find a clear answer on the idea:
To me, a very welcome addition to the device would be a simple beat/measure counter available to show in the screen, as apposed to the current BPM.
So, just a simple on-screen indication/representation of the currently playing bars and measures:
1.1 - 1.2 - 1.3 - 1.4 - 2.1 - 2.2 - 2.3 - 2.4 - 3.1 - 3.2 etc.
- this could be an alternative default screen content when the clock is running.
- one should be able to set the number of bars until it turns back to 1.1 ( example: 01 till 64 )
- resets at clock stop
- obviously, it should follow the time signature settings
- a manual 1.1 reset function (pedal?) without restarting the clock would be a cool bonus feature
In a lot of settings, improvisation, playing with bands, jam sessions, song practice, composition, and anything really (especially for people not using a DAW in their creative process) this would be a gamechanging function, as it helps anticipate breaks, makes sure you stay on the right 1.1, helps very much in silent parts/breaks/parts without drum to stay in time, and much more.
Feature wise it could be perfect for a device such as the Nome II if you ask me.
Thank you for considering.

Beat/Measure Counter/Display
Re: Beat/Measure Counter/Display
What a nicely written request, thank you!! I appreciate very much the details, the thoughts, and even the research (those two links at the bottom)
It's a nice idea, and it would be pretty simple to implement, but I really do not like the idea of adding yet another setting. The setting list is already incredibly long (especially since FW 4.0).
My first thought would be to implement this as an add-on module, an extra display showing what you want, with pretty much all the options you mentioned. What is nice is that when it's an add-on you can add tons of features onto it since it does not affect people who do not have the add-on

Re: Beat/Measure Counter/Display
Thank you for the consideration and reply.
I personally think it wouldn't be much in the way in current settings, but an add-on hardware module could possibly be even better, as it could be something, maybe with a larger display, placed/hung on a spot visible for all contributing sessions members.
I sure would buy one and also I manage a global community of live electronic music streamers (at https://GSG.live/join ) that could help with ideas, features and development if needed, as this is something we've been discussing for some time. One of the things we've also been talking about is the option to output the counter (and BPM) to something that can be imported into OBS (Opensource Broadcasting Software used for livestreaming) to include in livestreams, a hdmi out or a desktop app where it could visually be included in OBS scenes to communicate (or even sync) when doing remote jams.

Re: Beat/Measure Counter/Display
Interesting thoughts!
I see quite a few options, maybe making a simple module with a display having same size as the one on the Nome, but also adding an extra interface (with pins driving the display) if you want to make a DIY gigantic screen, for example something like that https://www.instructables.com/How-to-Bu ... en-Segmen/
As for something that can sent to OBS, that might be a lot more work, it would require a USB or a video interface, and quite a strong processor. I think it would be easier to simply use a camera placed in front of the device/module?

Re: Beat/Measure Counter/Display
Yeah, the placing a cam on a display, as some do now is the easiest solution for sure, although it feels a bit weird of course.
Are you saying you are considering developing this extra module?

Re: Beat/Measure Counter/Display
Yes it is a possibility. But I will have to see if we can combine it with other feature requests for it to make sense. Maybe the countdown request.
But don't get your hopes up as there is a lot of other matters to handle (FW 5.0, U-SYNC for Windows, "basic" add-on modules, the Ableton Link module, just to name a few). On the other hand, the idea with the module interface is to keep it fully open source and provide as much help as possible to the people in the community who feel like building something for it. So if this idea picks up, it won't matter what I develop as the community might make one for you
